Running a business with the hope of adding new customers to the already existing ones is what makes business interesting. Many businesses have folded up because they failed to do the necessary things they should have done in attracting new customers.

It is nice when you can open a business and attract new customers the next day. However it can’t happen without good planning. Without a good plan, and the proper execution, businesses die very quickly.

No doubt attracting new customers is also one of the reasons you are in business and that is why you will find these 10 rules of thumb useful.

1. Let people know you exist 

Advertising greatly increases your chances of success.Getting your message out costs money. You have to spend money to make money. This is a basic fact of business. If you don’t spend any money, you won’t be making any.  Once that happens, you will have attracted a new customer.

2. Don’t scare your customer

Make your customer feel comfortable with your product or service. Provide an environment that they will feel safe in.

3. Have a Good Message

Good advertising techniques are useless without an effective message. An effective message gives people reasons to spend their money with your business. An effective message attracts new customers.

4. Use technology to know what to market and to whom

The Internet is a sure medium to use for marketing. It can help you identify significant marketing trends and patterns that can be effective in getting existing and new customers interested in your products and services.

5. Maintain Ongoing Contacts

Your ability to always be in touch with your customers will be a great determiner. This is so because your existing customers can freely recommend you to new customers who are in need of your services or product.

6. Maintain a visible presence within your industry

Participate in trade shows, attend community events and offer to speak on your area of expertise at seminars. This will definitely attract new customers.

7. Support local charity

By sponsoring a fundraising event such as a Fashion drive, Marathon, walkabout or competition, you stand the chance of winning the hearts of new customers. Arrange for a formal presentation of your donation to the winners with cameras and try to get a local newspaper to publish the photograph.

8.Monitor the quality of your services and products

Customers who spread the word about your business are the best source of new customers. Pay attention to pricing, customer service, product availability and prompt delivery.

9. Precisely define your target audience

Create a detailed profile of your target customer. The more sections you can identify, the more potential hosts you can approach. For example, you can determine where your likely customers gather. It could be in a health club or salon amongst many others.

10. Develop a clear offer for each prospective partner

Come up with a free or deeply discounted product or service that has a high perceived value for the consumer with a low cost for you.

Every entrepreneur knows these tips and is willing to go the ‘whole nine yards’ to bring it to fruition. Play with these tips and see how many customers you would have attracted at the end of the day. On the other hand, if you do not take these seriously, then you are not ready to expand your profit rate, period.

    I believe in WOM, which is really a great way to attract the new customers and convert them into loyal customers with better product price, quality and service.

    Social media and blog also add great value in getting to know about the desires and wants of the customers and that way improved services can be rendered.

    Local charity is really a great way of promotion. All 4P’s of marketing are really important and now the 5th P.
