8 Surefire Tips for Building a Massive Mailing List

8 Surefire Tips for Building a Massive Mailing List

You may have read it many times – or even gotten sick of reading – the popular saying that “the money is in the list”. But it’s true. As an online entrepreneur, you need a very strong email list, as it helps make your marketing efforts count.

Leaving an email list out of your online marketing goals would deprive you of many customers – loyal customers.

So, here are eight surefire tips on how you can build an email list easily, ethically, and quickly:

1.  Make your sign form visible and place it on every page

Put your signup form either in your header area or at the very top of your sidebar. You don’t have to create a separate page for it that your visitors won’t find easily.

Using a text widget in WordPress, you can easily add the form within your sidebar – where your visitors can see it clearly.

2. Make your form simple

Only the email addresses of your visitors are all you need to build your email list. But for personalization purposes, you may want to ask for their first and last names. And that’s all.

Asking for more details such as home address and spouse’s name will annoy your visitors and put them off.

3. Offer lots of free information

You’ve got some level of expertise in your business, and that’s why you started it in the first place. Let your visitors tap from this expertise; share lots of valuable content with them – for free. This way, you can entice them to give you their email and other contact details you need to build your list.

But only valuable content does the magic. Crappy, mundane content doesn’t!

4. Capitalize on the ripple effect

Every email you send to your subscribers has the potential for a “ripple effect”. Using a strong call to action, encourage your recipients to share your email with their friends. And they’ll do just that! That’s the ripple effect.

But, for you to gain this advantage, your content must be really worth sharing.

5. Run contests

Contests attract attention. And that’s because people love free stuff. So, running a contest on your blog and offering very attractive prizes for winners is a magical tactic for attracting visitors to your blog.

But, to build your list with a contest, just use one clever tactic – make subscription to your mailing list a condition for entry into the contest. There you win!

6. Offer a downloadable freebie Freebies are very good incentives for encouraging subscriptions to your email list. Just think of something that your visitors will find very helpful and that they can have easy access to.

Free reports, ebooks, white papers, mp3s, videos, webinars, and e-courses are very good examples of magical incentives that will grow your list quickly.

7. Assure your visitors

State it clearly above or below your opt-in forms that your subscribers won’t receive spam from you. Also, assure them that no third party would have access to their email addresses. And let them know, too, that they can opt out of your list anytime they like. All these will encourage them to sign up readily.

8. Promote your email list, not your website or blog

When you are promoting your website through tactics like article marketing and guest posting, create links to your landing page in order to encourage subscriptions. This way, it’ll be easy for you to track your conversion rate.

Now, you’ve just discovered great tips for building a massive email list. Take action now. Implement these tips and see your email list grow faster than you ever expected. Just be sure to offer value all the way, because value rocks!

    Hi Valentine,

These are great tips to start building the list Valentine.

I have a sign form visible on the top of the sidebar of my blog and I do get some subscribers through it but not that much. Maybe I need to look for another way to boost the number of subscribers. You have provided great tips here and I will make sure to review them all and see which one works best for me besides the sign form.

Thanks so much Valentine for emphasizing the importance of the list here. It is a good reminder not to ignore building the list.

    Be Blessed,

I will soon start with two newsletters (in on Swedish and one in English). The long-range goal is to build a good list of readers and listeners of my content creation that could lead to future business based on the V.C.P (visibility, credibility, profitability) process (created by Dr. Ivan Misner of BNI).

    Hi Valentine,

Thank you for these awesome tips!

I saw others using contest but have not thought of the idea of making subscription to the mailing list a condition for entry into the contest. Clever trick indeed!

It is getting late now. I will come back to read about the ‘ripple effect’. Sounds interesting!

    Thanks, Valentine!

Very valuable tips! Building an email list is extremely important & the one that caught my eye the most was leaving a link back to your squeeze page -when guest posting or submitting articles in other places.

Whenever we create valuable content one of our main focuses should be on Building Our List therefore whenever you leave your mark always try draw them back to opting into your email list.
