From one economic meltdown to the other, the American economy has never really experienced a period of stability in the minds of the citizens. Then in 2008, all hell broke loose!
Americans wanted a change. They wanted the economy to get better. They wanted their small businesses to thrive. They wanted to have more control over their lives and families, instead of the economy having that control. So, they took law into their hands…
They elected the “messiah”; they elected a change agent; they elected someone who would transfer that control to them…
On the 20th of Jan, 2009, Barrack Obama was sworn in as America’s 44th president and first black president.
Four years later, the American citizens seem to be singing a different song.
They don’t yet have the control they want, the economy is still pathetic and they are beginning to doubt their messiah. The question is, “why?”
Here are a few shocking statistics to show you just how much wreckage our beloved president has done.
1. Increase in Unemployment Rate
Small businesses are not created for the selfish use of the entrepreneur alone. Businesses can’t survive without employees. The more businesses are created, the lower the unemployment rate.
According to a recent research , in 2009 – the same year of Obama’s swearing in- 60.6% of the American population were employees. Four years later, this figure has reduced to just 58.6%. How pathetic!
2. Decrease in Number of Small Businesses
Since the rate of unemployment experienced a gradual decrease during the four years of President Obama’s reign, this simply means one thing;
Many small businesses didn’t survive that era!
The economist, Tim Kane proved this fact when he stated in his paper that;
“There is anecdotal evidence that the U.S. policy environment has become inadvertently hostile to entrepreneurial employment. At the federal level, high taxes and higher uncertainty about taxes are undoubtedly inhibiting entrepreneurship, but to what degree is unknown.”
He also stated that;
“There has been a steady barrier erected to entrepreneurs at the local policy level. Brink Lindsey points out in his book Human Capitalism that the rise of occupational licensing is destroying startup opportunities for poor and middle class Americans.”
How bad can it get?
3. Small Businesses Are Getting Poorer
Literally speaking, small businesses are not growing past the stage of being small. One of the signs that a business is prospering is that it starts to pay employees better. Well, this wasn’t the case.
According to a survey which was carried out by the National Employment Law Project, the results were surprising.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 146 million Americans are either “poor” or “low income” at this point.
–25 percent of the jobs lost during the last recession were low wage jobs paying between $7.69 and $13.83 an hour.
–60 percent of the jobs created since the end of the recession have been low wage jobs paying between $7.69 and $13.83 an hour.
–65 percent of the jobs lost during the last recession were mid-wage jobs paying between $13.84 and $21.13 an hour.
–30 percent of the jobs created since the end of the recession have been mid-wage jobs paying between $13.84 and $21.13 an hour.”
–70 percent of all men in the US do not have a job but mostly more than 47 Million Americans are on food stamps.
This means that 80 percent of businesses pay lower than the figures you see above. Does this mean that businesses made less profit during Obama’s administration?
4. Entrepreneurs Might Leave the American Economy
“Go where the money is”; anyone serious about his business knows this fact.
In the history of trade between America and China, the American economy is beginning to see this as a threat to the well-being of their citizens. Due to the fact that America exports more to China than they import, a study found that this could lead to the displacement of between 512,000 and 566,000 workers.
This means that the economy loses up to half a million jobs to China annually.
If the rate of exports to China grows at 36 percent, while imports rise at a rate of 22 percent, then what is the fate of small businesses and the presently unemployed in America?
I know not everyone can or should start their own business or be an independent entrepreneurs. We need respect for working people, and decent paying jobs for working people.
One hundred years ago, Henry Ford decided to pay his workers a decent wage. They could actually afford to buy the product they were making.
Ford knew that when masses of woking class people make decent money, it helps the whole overall economy. That way of doing business is dead these days.
Corporations freeze wages, cut benefits and layoff workers in order to insure record profits and big bonuses for top management.
If we stay on this path, not only will the middle class be extinct, but so will our democracy.
5. Businesses Are Now Tasked Outrageously
It’s one thing to pay tax and another thing entirely to see the result of it. This is why it is extremely important to know where our taxes are going, even before paying it. But as you know, this is just not possible because refusing to pay tax is punishable by law. You wouldn’t want to get your small startup involved with federal agents, do you?
In a book titled, ” Presidential Perks Gone Royal: Youe Taxes Are Being Used for Obama’s Re-election”, Robert Gray, the author, stated that tax was being spent on the Obamas themselves and not on the American economy. And this expenditure even increases when they go on vacations.
If you discovered that your business was taxed so the President would be able to afford to go on a space vacation, would you still pay tax?
With all these stats above, this drives one question through our minds;
Did anything good come out of President Obama?
Well, the president wasn’t entirely after America’s downfall. This is because if this were the case, then he wouldn’t have been re-elected again on the 20th of Jan, 2013 for a second administration.
Osama Bin Laden, a “highly respected terrorist” whom I bet you know was killed during Obama’s administration. He also passed a vast health care reform bill which was also successful. In this second term, he is more than determined to pass a legislastion of gun control, due to the stshooting incident at a school in Newton, Conn.
Despite what the Obama administration tells us, the U.S. economy has been in decline for a very long time, and that decline has accelerated in many ways over the past four years.
Do you still have faith in your President? What do you think would be the outcome of Obama’s second administration? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
