Procrastination has been said to be a killer of time. Many have wasted their lives by procrastinating. This daily habit can be very destructive and if not well handled can lead to a disastrous business.
Procrastination typically begins when you start avoiding work that you don’t feel is inspiring enough. Then, instead of doing the work that you are supposed to be doing at that time, you shove it aside to do every other irrelevant task.
Your effectiveness suffers, so that you feel totally de-motivated and depressed and you are constantly busy because you never seem to finish the actual work that cannot be avoided.
No matter how bad the habit of procrastination has eaten deep into your fabric- with discipline and determination you can break free.
Here below are steps towards defeating the habit of procrastination.
1. Re-affirm your goals
Run through things like;where you want your business to be in the near future and what you want to achieve. Stating these things again on paper can help you regain that lost sense of goal.
2. Brand yourself with what is important
Prioritization is the most important of all. You should identify and agree to what is more important to you – moving your office to a better site, catching a nice afternoon nap, hiring new employees, a higher wage for your team, a nice six bedroom mansion, or a party on a yacht.
Decide what is more important to you. Then write it down on a sheet of paper and stick a picture of your dream on it. Also, put a date by which you wish to achieve it. You may want to set it as a wallpaper on your laptop if you prefer that. The key is to see what you want to become always.
4. Focus on Chunks rather than the whole project
When you have projects to do, one of the ways to go is to ward off procrastination. You should take the tasks in chunks rather than in whole. By doing this you save yourself the thought of it being a herculean task. More so, little by little you would get it all done.
5. Eliminate Distraction
One sure way to procrastinate is to accommodate distractions. Once you have prioritized, determine never to be distracted. Focus on the set goal and before long success will be yours.
6. Stay Energized
Revive and refresh yourself by taking a break if you must. However have at the back of your mind that the reason of the interruption is to come back better and stronger to complete the task.
7.Create a productive and comfortable environment
Your work place should be comfortable and undistracting. A disorganized workstation would not only have a negative effect on your productivity, it will also reduce your chances of a thriving business. This could leave a bad impression.
8. Challenge your pre-assumptions and beliefs
Stop underestimating your abilities; even if it’s the job you haven’t done before, give it a try. Do not put off doing it just because your presumptions tell you to do so.
Your business can grow to a very enviable status only of you knew that procrastination is a thief of all time. Outstanding entrepreneurs know this and will not take for granted this situation.
So what are you waiting for? Make up your mind today and see the great feats you would be accomplishing. Who knows before long your company would be among the fortune 500 companies.
